Michael James Tabone always dreamed of traveling the world, immersing himself in foreign cultures, and learning new languages. But growing up as a farm worker and spending most of his life doing manual labor in the produce industry made these dreams seem distant. Working at Oryana, an organic food cooperative in Traverse City, Michigan, since 2019, Michael saved every penny he could, hoping one day to go on an adventure in a faraway land.

During the global pandemic in 2020, a friend suggested that Michael explore the world through penpals. This advice led him to a life-changing connection with Yassin H. Barnoth, a young Maasai man from the hills outside of Arusha, Tanzania. The two quickly became best friends, with Barnoth offering a window into the rich culture and breathtaking landscapes of Tanzania.

In 2021, Michael fulfilled his dream by visiting Barnoth in Tanzania. The experience was nothing short of transformative. From being welcomed with a traditional karamu ya ndafu (roasted goat party) in the village of Ilboru to exploring the vibrant markets, lush Maasai hill villages, and breathtaking national parks, every moment was filled with joy and adventure. Together, they also ventured to the idyllic island of Zanzibar, where Barnoth served as Michael's Swahili interpreter and travel companion.

Inspired by these unforgettable experiences, Michael and Barnoth co-founded SavenGo Safaris to share the wonders of Tanzania with others.
